Shakira almost lost her career trying to preserve her ex Gerard Pique's.

Shakira is gearing up to release her new album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, but before she completely moves on from the man who inspired it, she reflects on her relationship with Gerard Pique leading up to their breakup.

"For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football," the "Hips Don't Lie" hitmaker confessed to The Sunday Times. "There was a lot of sacrifice for love."

Shakira shares two sons with the football player, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9. After a lengthy custody battle between the former couple, Pique gave the singer full custody of their kids.

Shakira Dropping New Album Soon

In a different interview, Shakira revealed how she viewed family and relationships, which led her to focus more on her family and let her music career slip to the side.

"My priority was my home, my family. I believed in 'till death do us part.' I believed that dream," the "She Wolf" singer explained, before noting that she wishes to have a love like her parents, who have been together for "50 years."

"It's what I wanted for myself and my children, but it didn't happen," she added.

According to reports, Shakira and Pique called it quits in June 2022 after being together for 11 years.

They met during the set of Shakira's "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" music video.

Shakira's new album is slated to release on Mar. 22, with a 17-song tracklist.

Shakira 'Rebuilds' her Life Post Divorce

After the divorce, Shakira released her viral hit song, "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53" with Argentine DJ Bizarrap.

The song became her fifth top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100 since 2007's "Beautiful Liar" with Beyonce.

"There were so many pieces of my life that crumbled in front of my eyes and I had to rebuild myself in a way, picking up the bones from the floor and putting them all together," Shakira explained. "And the glue that kept it all together was music."

As per Hola, Pique allegedly cheated on the "Whenever, Wherever" hitmaker multiple times before their eventual divorce.

Reports claimed that the football player had an affair with one of the singer's friends, Anna Kaiser, and his current girlfriend, Clara Chia.
