Finally a bit of news about Jennifer Lawrence that doesn't include speculation on her love life! The Oscar winning actress was just announced as a co-chair for next years' Met Gala, one of the premiere events in the fashion world each year. Why was Lawrence selected out of a whole bunch of young Hollywood chameleons? It probably has a lot to do with her Christian Dior contract. The label's chairman, Bernard Arnault is working over time trying to boost the company sales in China and this years' Gala is actually a perfect tie in.

According to Harper's Bazaar UK's official Met Gala announcement, Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film and Fashion is set to open next spring, it will explore the influence of China on everything from fashion, costume, paintings, movies, films, opera and art, with work from creatives as diverse as film director Ang Lee and fashion designer John Galliano.

"The West's interest in China seems to be intensifying, and China's cultural influence on the West also seems to have reached new heights," explained Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton of the choice to stage this exhibition now. "The basic idea is the influence of Chinese aesthetics on designers, but I also wanted to convey how costumes and decorative arts crystallise centuries of cultural interchanges between the East and the West."

The exhibition will be officially opened with the inaugural Met Ball next May, co-chaired by Jennifer Lawrence, Wendi Murdoch, Anna Wintour, Chinese actress Gong Li and Yahoo president and CEO Marissa Mayer.

Is Jennifer Lawrence a good choice to co-chair the 2015 Met Gala? While her Dior ads seem to be a bit watered down she certainly does have a real sense of edgy style when left to her own devices, right? Do you think Dior campaigned a bit to get Jennifer in the door for this gig, knowing it would likely benefit the brand on the flip side?
