She wasn't the first one to do this type of release. Her good friend SZA announced that the deluxe edition of her award-winning album SOS will be in a new format and appear to be a standalone project titled Lana.

Why Did Doja Cat Name Her Project 'Scarlet II: Claude Frollo'?

In February 2024, the musician spoke with The Therapy Gecko Podcast to share the reason why she named her next project Scarlet II: Claude Frollo, which is an homage to the character from the animated movie Hunchback Of Notre Dame.

"Because he is like a... is he a tyrant? He's like a... I feel like it connects to the story of Scarlet in some way. And if you look up his personality traits and who he is and his story, you'll understand kind of the whole connection," she explained.

She further discussed that there is a "control aspect," and the character abuses his power. Instead of letting the other character, Esmeralda, live her life by being creative, Claude Frollo continued to be "awful and a bad guy."
