Jason Aldean will perform at the CMT Music Awards 2024 despite the past controversy involving his song "Try That in a Small Town."

Multiple news outlets unveiled the list of performers at the CMT Music Awards, which included Aldean. The artist was tapped to perform his track, "Let Your Boys Be Country" at the ceremony.

It can be recalled that the song received a nomination for the Video of the Year award.

Jason Aldean to Return to CMT Music Awards

This year's event will mark Aldean's ninth performance at the ceremony. However, it will only be the first time that he will be at the CMT Music Awards after sparking controversy over "Try That in a Small Town."

The public believed the song was so racially offensive that Aldean was compelled to address the issue through a July 2023 Instagram post.

"In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protesters," he said, per OK! Magazine. "These references are not only meritless, but dangerous."

He added, "There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it - and there isn't a single video clip that isn't real news footage - and while I can try to respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music - this one goes too far."

Aside from Aldean, Dasha will perform alongside Old Dominion, Bailey Zimmerman, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson, Cody Johnson, Sam Hunt, Kelsea Ballerini, Trisha Yearwood, NEEDTOBREATHE + Jordan Davis, Parker McCollum with Brittney Spencer, Little Big Town with Sugarland, Megan Moroney and more.

CMT Awards will air live from Austin, Tex.'s Moody Center on Sunday, April 7.

Jason Aldean Has a String of Controversies

Before the release of the song, Aldean had already found himself embroiled in different controversial moments over the years.

In September 2015, he told the Washington Post he could not tell female singers apart. He also left the public fuming when he reportedly wore blackface.

Aldean was also repetitiously condemned when he wore a Confederate flag shirt, broke COVID-19 protocols, and spoke up to defend Donald Trump.

He also faced some intense bashing and forced to confront the public when his wife, Brittany Aldean, posted photos of herself wearing an "Anti Biden Social Club" outfit.
