John Bush has been around the metal music industry for decades and was a former singer of Anthrax. Now, the musician has found a new family and established a new supergroup with some of the most prominent artists within the genre.

According to Consequence, Bush is now the frontman of a new band called Category 7, which includes Phil Demmel (Kerry King, former Machine Head member), Mike Orlando (Sonic Universe, Adrenaline Mob), Jason Bittner (Overkill, Shadow Fall), and Jack Gibson (Exodus).

The band has yet to release tracks but signed a deal with Metal Blade Records.

The outlet noted that Demmel and Orlando conceptualized the idea of a supergroup. They had no problems getting every member on board, and they eventually decided to make Bush their frontman.

"Mike Orlando's and Phil Demmel's awesome riffs made writing lyrics over the music a piece of cake... The rhythm tandem of Bittner and Gibson rounded out the sound and the connection felt like it was put together in the stars. Obviously, everyone being a veteran of the metal scene made it that much easier," Bush said of his bandmates.

Fans should expect their first single to be released on May 2, 2024. A full-length album will drop later this year.

Why Did John Bush Leave Anthrax?

In a report by Metal Sucks in 2010, Anthrax member Ian Scott revealed that the reason why John Bush left the group was because the band needed "a total commitment" from the musician and he wasn't ready for it.

Since then, many people have speculated about why he departed, as fans believe Scott's statement was too vague.

He spoke with Blabbermouth in an interview to give insight about his exit, saying he didn't envision himself returning to them permanently.

"When I left Anthrax in 2005, I didn't want to go on the road anymore. My daughter was just about twelve months old at the time and I started for my wife and her business doing voice-overs, which has been really taking off over the last three and a half years," he recalled.

Bush added that he felt that he had gotten used to the idea of not creating music anymore at the time, but he didn't close his doors because he was still confused about whether he wanted to continue his musical path.

However, he clarified that he felt it was a good time to take a break and that he was sure he would return to music in the future.

John Bush Eventually Joined Armored Saint

Later in his career, Bush got up on his feet and returned to music, joining Armored Saint. Around the same time, Anthrax and Dan Nelson parted ways, and the group asked him to come back, but he thought his old bandmates were set to re-record Worship Music, which didn't appeal to him.

He explained that he wasn't comfortable with the idea of re-recording an album because he was not a part of the record's creation.
