If you love David Bowie and happen to live in Chicago, boy, are you in luck. Chi-Town's mayor Rahm Emanuel has officially declared that Sept. 23, 2014, will be David Bowie Day in the Windy City.

According to Consequence of Sound, the Sept. 23 proclamation cited Bowie's musical icon status for the new holiday.

"Through imaginative material and provocative performances that include lauded lyricism and risqué subject matters, and employ stunning visual displays and flamboyant costumes, David Bowis has impacted and inspired millions of fans across the globe for more than 50 years," Emanuel wrote in the David Bowie Day proclamation. He also calls Bowie a "global icon," citing the musician's impact in music, art, fashion, design and "theatrical canons."

Sept. 23 was chosen as the specific date for David Bowie Day because it will coincide with a music and art retrospective, David Bowie Is... at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, set to open on that day.

According to the museum website, David Bowie Is... will include over 400 pieces of Bowie memorabilia and artifacts, including handwritten lyrics, costumes, set designs, rare performance videos and photographs. David Bowie Is... comes to Chicago from the Victoria and Albert Museum on London.

The art and music exhibit will run from Sept. 23 to Jan. 4, 2015.
