Despite all of the annoyance the recent U2 album release and automatic download following Apple's iPhone 6 unveiling has been sparking, there's one guy who pretty awed by the action –– Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, according to NME.

During a recent conversation with Billboard, the drummer admitted that the Songs of Innocence record giveaway inspired him "immensely." He also praised the iconic Irish rockers in their efforts to "reinvent the wheel."

On the unusual release method, Ulrich claims, "It's 2014 and anybody who thinks outside the box, or attempts in any way, shape or form, to break the status quo in the world of music, should be applauded."

He added, "To me, it's not about whether the endeavor is a success or not. It's the fact that they have the balls and the foresight to throw something this radical at us."

Say what you will about Songs of Innocence, does the drummer have a point? In a world filled with the "next big thing," was U2's automatic download at all, as Ulrich says, radical? Did it contain foresight?

As we all know, the aforementioned giveaway caused an unforeseen uproar in the iTunes community that no one saw coming... especially the band! Over 500 million users received the record, and many called it an "invasion of privacy." Because of that, Apple had to create a tool that specifically took the record off their Apple devices. The news was then spoofed hilariously by Conan O'Brien.

So, Music Times readers, what do you think of Ulrich's comments? Tell us below!
