M.I.A. has filed a $2.8 million lawsuit against Kid Cudi after being removed from his Rebel Ragers Tour, escalating a public dispute that began with comments made during her onstage performance.
The case, filed in the United States District Court for the Western Division of California, claims she was unfairly fired from the tour after what Cudi described as "offensive remarks" during her opening set.
According to the lawsuit, M.I.A., whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam, argues that she had a contract guaranteeing payment regardless of onstage comments. Her team says Live Nation agreed to a $2.8 million guarantee tied to her participation in the tour, Variety reported.
The filing also alleges that Kid Cudi directed organizers to remove her, which they say damaged her career and reputation.
"M.I.A. was terminated to generate publicity for the Tour, which has struggled with ticket sales," the complaint states. It further claims that Cudi's actions interfered with her contractual rights and led to lost income, including merchandise and VIP sales.

According to RollingStone, following the show, Kid Cudi announced on Instagram that she was no longer part of the tour, saying he would not allow "offensive remarks" that upset fans. He also stated he had warned management beforehand about expectations for performances.
"I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn't want anything offensive at my shows," Cudi wrote, adding that he acted after receiving complaints from fans.
M.I.A. quickly responded on social media, rejecting the criticism and defending her past work and message. She argued that her words were being misrepresented and pushed back against claims that she had crossed a line.
In her statement through representatives, she described the situation as an attack on artistic freedom. Her team said she had long been outspoken in her music and believed the firing was not about her comments alone, but about drawing attention to a struggling tour.
The lawsuit also accuses Live Nation of breaching its agreement and failing to honor the payment guarantee. M.I.A. is seeking damages beyond the contract amount, along with legal fees.
Kid Cudi's representatives have not publicly responded to the lawsuit. The Rebel Ragers Tour, which launched on April 28 and includes stops across 30 US cities.
