Classicalite favorite The National’s Bryce Dessner is back at it again. This time with The Knights, Bang on a Can All-Stars and the world premiere of Mike Oldfield's Tubular as part of New Sounds Live, a free, three-night series at Brookfield Place Winter Garden from October 14 to 16.

The series is curated by WNYC’s New Sounds and Soundcheck host John Schaefer. He will also introduce each concert and conduct on-stage interviews with the performers.

Kicking off on October 14, the Bang on a Can All-Stars will perform Steel Hammer by composer Julia Wolfe. Steel hummer is Wolfe’s take on the John Henry folk tale about a steel driver who races against a machine. The piece, inspired by Wolfe’s admiration for the legends and music of Appalachia, will feature banjo, bones, mountain dulcimer and a trio of singers as acoustics.

Following on October 15, Bryce Dessner of The National is set to perform his own compositions with Brooklyn-based orchestral collective The Knights. Dessner draws from baroque music to the blues to create his own compositions, which we have celebrated on Classicalite as part of his Big Sur score.
