Showtime series The Affair will feature new music from Fiona Apple. The previously unreleased song, called "Container," will accompany the title sequence of the show. According to Pitchfork, the storyline inspired the song, which tells of a woman who died, screaming into a canyon, and how those echoes caused an avalanche that killed a man whose widow ultimately "met you daddy and they made you."

"Fiona Apple has been my favorite songwriter since I was 16," The Affair executive producer Sarah Treem said, according to Pitchfork. "I am honored and humbled that she has chosen to lend her talent to our opening title sequence. If our show can approach one-tenth of the depth and complexity of her song, I'll be very happy."

The track was produced by collaborator Blake Mills, who co-headlined the "Anything We Want" tour last year with Apple.

The Affair premieres Oct. 12 at 10 p.m. on Showtime. According to a press release, the show "explores the emotional and psychological effects of an extramarital affair, and will be told separately from the male and female perspectives." It stars Dominic West, Ruth Wilson and Maura Tierney.
