Shania Twain has announced a new album, which will be her first since 2002's Up. The country singer opened up about how her two-year Las Vegas residency gave her the confidence to release new music in a new interview with the Las Vegas Sun.

"The success here in Las Vegas has given me a confidence that I have not had in years, even in past tours," she said. "I really have been able to build up a lot more courage and a lot more confidence in myself. Yeah, I'm ready for more things now."

Twain said that her new album is currently in the works, but that she's nervous about putting her songs out there.

"That's a whole new world there for me because that took a lot of courage, too," said Twain, who hasn't put out an album in almost 12 years. "Just to really dive in there and expose my songwriting for the first time after a long time to my peers and have to sit there and get the feedback and be brave enough to do that."

Elsewhere in the interview, Twain said she's planning to go on tour after her Caesars Palace residency comes to a close at the end of the year.

"Being with these giant crowds was very exciting," she said. "And it's motivated me to carry on doing that."
