Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton's friendship was forged in music through the band Cream. It's fitting then that Clapton is remembering the recently deceased bassist with music.

Slowhand shared an instrumental track via his website today (October 27) simply titled "For Jack." The acoustic beauty clocks in at 2:30 and has Clapton plucking away in honor of his friend who died Saturday (October 25). Listen to the tribute below.

"He was a great musician and composer, and a tremendous inspiration to me," Clapton wrote following the news of Bruce's passing. The guitarist, as Ultimate Classic Rock notes, also added a post on his official website, highlighting Bruce's illustrious career.

According to that post, Cream has sold more than 35 million albums despite their last studio effort together, Goodbye, came out in 1969. Clapton contributed to Bruce's 1992 solo album Something Else on songs "Willpower" and "Ships in the Night." The pair met back up in the studio in 2001 to re-record Cream classics "White Room" and "Sunshine of Your Love" for the bassist's Shadows in the Air album.

The trio of Bruce, Clapton and Ginger Baker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, where they shared the stage for a special performance. They met up again in 2005 for a handful of reunion dates in London and New York City.

"It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad and all round legend," Bruce's family wrote in a statement. "The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."

Bruce died at the age of 71 from liver disease.
