Amanda Bynes was almost a free woman yesterday after being held on an involuntary commitment for the last 16 days. Instead of allowing Bynes to leave, her doctors instead secured a 30-day extension to that commitment from a judge familiar with the case. Doctors apparently were able to prove that Bynes is "very ill" and unable to appropriately care for herself in the real world, something that easily led to an extension of her facility stay.

According to TMZ, her parents were originally expected to go back to court in an attempt to regain a conservatorship over Bynes, but that seems to have changed. Bynes was basically tricked into hopping on that plane from New York back to Los Angeles, and she is reportedly feeling extremely betrayed by those closest to her.

Apparently, her parents do not want to add any fuel to the fire that is already raging. Plus, it looks like there is a good chance Bynes is looking at a long stay in a psychiatric facilitiy. If that is the case, then her parents know her money should be safe from being squandered.

This story is sad, especially if you remember how well Bynes was doing at this time last year. She was living with her parents and ready to head onto a new career path and seemed steady on her feet. Bynes moved out of her parents' home in late July and from the sounds of it she really unraveled pretty quickly.

There were rumors she had stopped taking her medication not long after moving out. Do you think the lack of meds led to her falling apart all over again? Do you think this time around she needs an extended stay in a facility?
