The xx are among the last decade's most critically acclaimed performers and the group is getting ready to share its wares as part of a third studio album. No date or title was shared but the group gave a newsletter to fans (thank God...we're tired of the term "open letter") giving details on the new album and otherwise reassuring us that yes, it's coming (via Pitchfork).

Namely, the article listed a number of locations where the trio's been recording, and boy does it have some personality. London is an obvious location considering it's the band's hometown, but that doesn't make it any less interesting to record in. The other pair of cities peak our interest even more however: Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland and hometown to post-rock pioneers Sigur Ros as well as alt-icon Björk. The influence there could work well with The xx as well. The last location listed is Marfa, TX, a city on the Western side of the state without any major music history but noted for its background in minimalist art, a term that could potentially applied to some of the band's music.

"Although all very different, each of these places have been inspirational environments to create music in, and each will have an influence on the new album," the newsletter read. "The whole process is a big adventure and we can't wait for a time when we'll be able to share the music with you."

Although that message to fans was released at the end of the week, the band had already shared-to some degree-new music with fans on September 5. The band played an unusual show at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Fans lined the building's iconic spiral ramp all the way up while the group performed on the ground level. You can check out a video of them performing 2009's "Angels" below.
