The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2013 induction nominees on October 15, including KISS, Nirvana, N.W.A. and more. Although there's no limit to how many can be allowed into the hall by the panel of 600 voters, we at Music Times  have been reading too much The Hunger Games and wondered: What if there could be only one?
Therefore we've organized the nominees into a bracket, and are giving you, the reader, the chance to vote for the artists of your choice. Is it fair? No, but it will certainly test your loyalty to your favorite acts. We'll release one quadrant a day for voting, and hopefully give you a chance to learn something about the acts along the way.
KISS vs. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band

KISS is probably the band to beat in this year's real inductions. It's the first time the band has been nominated since the public was given a chance to vote, and the new policy helped long-shunned prog-rockers Rush finally make the hall. Considering KISS's continuing popularity and its army (see what we did there?) of devoted fans, the Knights in Satan's Service may finally reach the hall. At least give The Paul Butterfield Blues Band a fighting chance however; Butterfield and his group (highlighted by guitarists Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Jones) helped reverse the notion that the blues had to come from rural areas, and popularized Chicago blues artists who came before, such as Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters.

LL Cool J vs. Chic

It may have been luck that LL Cool J was the first artist to release an album on Def Jam, but it wasn't luck that he was the first rapper to top the Billboard R&B charts (with "I Need Love"), nor was it luck that the Rock The Bells hip-hop tour is named after one of his songs. LL walked a fine line between lover and fighter and came out a winner on both ends. This is his first nomination in a few years. Chic has been nominated eight times since becoming eligible during 2003, to little avail. However two things point to potential success for the group in 2013: 1) Donna Summers was inducted last year, marking possible acceptance for disco and 2) Guitarist Nile Rodgers has found himself in the spotlight thanks to his appearance in Daft Punk's "Get Lucky."
