We all knew the passing of iconic alt-rocker Lou Reed would cause an emotional stir in the music community. What we didn’t expect is that the death of ‘Mambo No. 5’ singer Lou Bega would cause an outpouring of condolences as well. Fortunately, our ‘90s brethren can rest easy because Bega is, in fact, still alive.
According to Facebook, the one-hit wonder had been inundated with misdirected condolences after a reporter mixed up the two Lous. “I have been receiving Tons of condolences because of a Journalist confusing our Identities,” he writes. “Lou Bega sends his condolences to mr.Reeds Family.” To prove he his alive and well, he posted a selfie.
Music Times has yet to find the article to which Bega is referring, but at least he knows that these people still care about him:
RIP Lou Bega. Your version of Mambo No 5 helped shape my adolescence.
