It's been over two years since Ed Sheeran released new solo material, but now the "Lego House" singer is back with a new track for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug soundtrack, "I See Fire."

Sheeran initially announced the new song on his Twitter account late last night (Nov. 4). According to the singer/songwriter, "I See Fire" will play during the end credits of The Desolation of Smaug and the recording process for the song allowed him to wear many hats at once.

"I got the chance to produce and play all the instruments on it apart from the cello. Managed to learn violin for a day, hope you all dig it," he wrote.

And dig it, we do. Fitting for the rustic Hobbit films, the track begins with a lone Sheeran singing, hoping to be heard. A finger plucked, vaguely Spanish riff comes into play as Sheeran's voice floats over the simple instrumentation. "Watch the flames burn over the mountainside / And if we should die tonight / We should all die together / Raise a glass of wine for the last time," Sheeran solemnly sings.

Something terrible is on the brink of occurring, but Sheeran will be damned if he doesn't sing his heart out first.

Eventually, the track builds from a simple guy and his guitar number to a well orchestrated string piece, with Sheeran leading the chorus of instruments with a passionate yet light vocal.

"I See Fire" is a new single from singer/songwriter. The track will not be on his upcoming sophomore album, reportedly due out in 2014.
