It looks like 2015 will be a good year for Macklemore fans. Although nothing official has been announced, the "Thrift Shop" rapper recently responded to a comment on Twitter asking about new music. Mack responded by telling the follower that new material will be out this year, XXL notes. The release will be the follow-up to 2012's smash hit The Heist.

This is big news for fans who have been patiently waiting around for new Macklemore music. The Heist propelled the rapper and collaborator Ryan Lewis to stardom following a slew of hits like "Same Love," "Can't Hold Us" and "Thrift Shop." The effort went straight to No. 1 on multiple charts, but peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

"It's these sort of astute observations on the human condition and keen self-awareness that set this effort apart. That reality, coupled with Ryan Lewis' vast, daring and layered production, makes The Heist a truly beautiful album that challenges musical boundaries," XXL wrote about the album.

Mack recently stopped by Ebro in the Morning to talk about being a white artist in the hip-hop realm.

"The privilege that exists in the music industry is just a greater symptom of the privilege that exists in America. There's no difference. This is just a byproduct," he said.

"You need to know your place in the culture. Are you contributing or are you taking? Are you using it for your own advantage or are you contributing? I saw a tweet that said, 'Hip-hop was birthed out of the civil rights movement.' This is a culture that came from pain and oppression. It was the byproduct," he added. "Just because there's been more successful white rappers, you cannot disregard where this culture came from and our place in it as white people. This is not my culture to begin with. As much as I have honed my craft, I do believe that I need to know my place."
