Clubbers in London are being jolted with some sudden, saddening news. Revered Shoreditch venue, Plastic People has announced after reports started to circulate last night that it would be shuttering its doors this weekend. The news was confirmed by the club's owner, Charlotte Kepel, to Resident Advisor, telling the website, "We will not open again in 2015. Plastic People had great runs both on Oxford Street and Curtain Road." She added: "A fabulous time was had and it felt right to move on."

The club also posted about the news on Twitter.

Tonight, Friday, Jan. 2, will be the last public event at the club. On Saturday, the venue will host its final party for "friends and family" with Floating Points, Abdul Forsyth, Benny Blanco, Paul Camo and Sean McAuliffe from 10 p.m. to close and that will probably be an all night bender.

Plastic People was a well known home for burgeoning dubstep and grime artists, hosting the FWD>> dubstep night and broken beat party Co-Op. The club has hosted some of the genre's finest names and had artists like James Blake, Theo Parrish, Carl Craig and Four Tet all hold residencies there.

The surprise announcement comes only a few weeks after Islington Council in London made the snap decision to review the license of London clubbing culture staple, Fabric, in light of recent drug-related deaths and arrests at the club. The club was not forced to close by the police, but it is facing increased scrutiny and regulation that includes drug-sniffing dogs for clubbers as they enter, though the club owners are appealing the decision.
