Macklemore has announced today that he is expecting more than a new album this year: He and fiancéeTricia Davis are expecting their first child together.

First announced by Page Six, the rapper has shared a video of his own, opening with, "Today the media speculated about some big news in our life. So we decided to share it with you ourselves. Love, Ben and Tricia."

The clip reveals that the baby is expected some time in May, with footage of the couple in the hospital with friends as they learned the news first hand and shows the human side of things. This video and announcement are a nice change, as Macklemore has been under extreme criticism for being a white rapper in the media spotlight recently.

Macklemore recently addressed recent criticisms in an in-depth and honest interview regarding the role of race in hip hop, where he admitted, "You need to know your place in the culture. Are you contributing or are you taking? Are you using it for your own advantage or are you contributing? I saw a tweet that said, 'Hip-hop was birthed out of the civil rights movement.' This is a culture that came from pain and oppression. It was the byproduct. Just because there's been more successful white rappers, you cannot disregard where this culture came from and our place in it as white people. This is not my culture to begin with. As much as I have honed my craft, I do believe that I need to know my place."

In addition to a new album dropping this year comes the exciting news of Macklemore and his fiancé welcoming a child, which was first rumored when Tricia Davis was spotted obstaining from consuming alcohol during a New Year's Eve celebration. The couple has been together for eight years and became engaged last January.
