January is the season for festival lineup announcements and Fresh Island Festival in Croatia — where else? — is here to share its. Normally when one thinks about beach parties and festivals, DJs spinning downtempo house music until the early morning comes to mind, like the just-completed BPM Festival in Mexico. But Fresh Island is flipping that idea on its head with a hip-hop-centered festival with a splash of EDM-tinged trap music in what it claims is "Europe's No. 1 hip-hop beach festival." FIF released the first phase of acts in a newsletter for who will be joining the festival this summer, and the headliners include Danny Brown, Migos, Joey Bada$$ and Tinashe.
The lineup also includes DJs as well, who will be headed up by Brazilian duo Tropkillaz and Statik Selektah. Fresh Island Festival takes place on Zrce Beach, on the island of Pag along the picturesque Adriatic coastline of Croatia. It will take place over three days from July 15 to 17. The festival will feature daily boat and pool parties, nighttime sets, break dancing competitions and live street art. Past headliners have included the likes of Nas and Rick Ross.
Tickets are on sale now for a paltry 65 euros — $75.08 — so a vacation may be in order for any hip-hop heads this summer to Croatia. Head to the Fresh Island Festival website for more information and to get tickets.
