Although they don't have a new album to support (at least not yet), Scottish alt-rock veterans Primal Scream have announced a brief North American tour to follow their appearance at Austin Psych Fest's Levitation Festival on May 9. According to Brooklynvegan, the band will hit New Orleans, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, and New York City, finishing up in Brooklyn on May 21.

Brooklynvegan points out that Primal Scream promised to tour North America following their appearance at Austin Psych Fest last year, though that ultimately didn't end up happening, so hopefully the band follows through on this tour announcement. Primal Scream aren't the only Scottish alt-rock legends to be performing at Levitation this year. Singer Bobby Gillespie's old band The Jesus and Mary Chain are performing as well, and are embarking on their own North American tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their classic debut album Psychocandy. Other bands performing at this year's festival, which runs May 8-10, include Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, Spiritualized, Mac DeMarco, Thee Oh Sees, Lightning Bolt, and more.

Primal Scream's most recent album More Light was released back in 2013, and was the band's 10th studio album overall. Last year, the band suffered the loss of original guitarist Robert "Throb" Young, who was found dead at age 49 of undisclosed causes in his apartment in England. Young was a founding member of Primal Scream and played with the band from 1984 to 2006.
