Asheville, NC is making a stab at becoming on the United States' most talked-about electronic music scenes by once again hosting the Moogfest music festival. This year, the event will feature performances from electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk, as well as Chic. Giorgio Moroder, Dan Deacon and Darkstar are some of the other musicians announced thus far. More than 70 additional performers are expected to be named over the next several weeks.

Kraftwerk will play three shows over a period of two days, according to the announcement. It will be the German group's third collection of dates in the United States for 2014. The group will play a series of concerts in Los Angeles and Oakland during March. The Moogfest shows will occur a month after the Oakland dates. Kraftwerk is renowned for its recent 3D concert performances, which will be part of the plan for Moogfest as well.

Even though it failed to make it into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame this time around, Chic has seen a huge boost in popularity during the last year. Part of it was thanks to guitarist Nile Rodgers presence in Daft Punk's recording and music video for super-hit "Get Lucky."

Moogfest will occur over a number of venues over five days in the Asheville area. Much like festivals such as SXSW, various labels and music organizations-including Fool's Gold, AFROPUNK and Warp Records-will operate showcases. There will also be plenty of music panels, presentations and film screenings to entertain those that need more than the music itself to keep their interest.
