It ain't nothin' by a 'G' thang. The hip-hop world was devastated by the death of the iconic Nate Dogg during 2011, however Warren G was not going to let the pair's hit single "Regulate" go to the grave as well. The rapper will be performing the song tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live along with fellow "G" and saxophonist Kenny G, fulfilling a joke that your correspondent made during his junior year of high school.

The performance will be part of Kimmel's "Mash-Up Mondays" segment, which takes performers (generally) of different genres and has them perform some hybridization of classic tracks. Previous segments have included Aloe Blacc versus Blackstreet, Haim versus Morris Day, and Weezer versus ZZ Top.

XXL reports that Kenny G claimed to have been a fan of the track as a child. "It was a record that I always loved, from being a kid and my parents playing it when they had their friends over." This would be awesome on so many counts, from anyone's parents playing "Regulate" as party music to the fact that Kenny would have been living at home at the age of 38 (and one of the bestselling performers in the world), based on the age he would have been when "Regulate" first debuted during 1994. Therefore we think it's safe to say he was referring to Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)," which is sampled during "Regulate."

Both performers have new music to promote with their appearance on Kimmel. Kenny G just released a Brazilian themed album of instrumentals Brazilian Nights, while Warren G will be touring for the 20th anniversary of Regulate...G Funk Era, the album that included "Regulate" as the first track during 1994. Warren will release a sequel during 2015: Regulate...G Funk Era Pt. 2, his first collection of new work since The G Files in 2009.
