The World Music Institute will continue its World to Brooklyn series with Colombia to Brooklyn: Gregorio Uribe Big Band at Roulette.

The 16-piece orchestra is led by Colombian-born singer and accordionist Gregorio Uribe. Together, the group blends cumber and other Colombian rhythms with powerful big band arrangements. Along with the orchestra, guest artist, singer and violinist Mireya Ramos will also be performing.

For the last four years, the popular band has held a monthly residency at Zince Park and have also performed shows at the Kennedy Center, Blue Note Jazz Club, Iridium Jazz Club and Celebrate Brooklyn Festival. In 2015, they performed at Dizzy's Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The band's debut album will be released in 2015 after a successful Kickstartr campaigned fueled by fans helped the band raise $23,000. According to a press release, Uribe has been named by the government of Colombia as one of the “100 most successful Colombians abroad.” This honor comes from his accomplishments, being an artist-in-residence at Dartmouth College and a commissioned composer for Grammy-winning Arturo O'Farrill’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.
