The Allman Brothers will get back on the road again (not an Allman Brothers song, mind you) to celebrate its 45th anniversary as a group, including a 10-date stop at New York City's Beacon Theatre in March.

The theater is one of two New York venues that vies for most relevant in the Allman Brothers' career: The group may have recorded its landmark live album at the Fillmore East (closed way back in 1971), but the Brothers have played more than 220 shows at the Beacon Theatre since 1989. The band also recorded Live at The Beacon Theatre during 2003. The group is noted more for its live playing than its singles, a fact that founding vocalist Gregg Allman says helps the band keep it interesting over a 10 show run.

"Going through the motions would be a real bore. I know a band that plays the same songs in the same order, they even say the same shit at the same time every night," he said. "But, no, we're all still real into it."

The ultimate lineup for the New York City gigs hasn't been ironed out yet. Fans can assume that Allman and founding percussionists Butch Trucks and Jai "Jaimoe" Johanson will be onstage, but the vocalist isn't sure if bassist Oteil Burbridge will make the trip; Burbridge has been touring with the Zac Brown Band. Guitarist Derek Trucks (nephew of Butch)

The band will play the Beacon Theatre March 7-8, March 11-12, March 14-15, March 18-19 and March 21-22. Tickets go on sale January 10.
