Adele's monumental 2011 album 21 is still breaking records. Two years after its initial release, 21 has made a huge sales achievement.

According to Nielsen SoundScan and Rolling Stone, 21 has finally passed the 3 million digital sales mark, becoming the first album in history to do so.

The massive sales success of 21 should come as no surprise to those who follow the Billboard charts and album sales closely. 21 was also (fittingly) the 21st best-selling album of 2013 even after being on the shelves for two years. More impressively, 21 was the best-selling record of both 2011 and 2012, moving over 10 million copies in the US alone.

21's groundbreaking digital sales record was essentially inevitable. Last month, Amazon released its best-sellers list, with 21 becoming the retailers top-selling CD and fourth best-selling .MP3 album of all time.

Since the promotional loop for 21 ended, Adele has mostly laid low. She gave birth to her son, Angelo, in Oct. 2012 with Simon Konecki and has taken time to raise her family.

However, Adele did release the James Bond single "Skyfall" in 2012 and is reportedly in the studio working on her third studio album.
