Highly touted Australia-based producer DJ Flume has unveiled his remix for Sam Smith's hit single "Lay Me Down" from his Grammy Award-winning album In the Lonely Hour. Flume flips the heartfelt piano ballad on its head with a distinctly Australian electronic instrumental. He kicks it off with his stuttering pitched synth stabs before introducing haunting chords over an alternating bass line with Sam Smith's voice crooning until the glitchy and high-pitched drop.

The remix is complex and shows the attention to detail for each element that Flume -- real name Harley Streten -- shows with his own productions. This is the latest high-profile remix from Streten after being tabbed on official duties for Lorde's "Tennis Courts" and Arcade Fire's "Afterlife." He also took on fellow dance music act Disclosure's "You & Me" more than a year ago.

With the unveiling of this remix, Flume explained what he has been up to over the past few months on Facebook, explaining, "I've spent the last few months in the studio on a bunch of new material, but wanted to share this first."

This would imply that he has more music on the way beyond this Sam Smith remix, and we do know that he is preparing a follow-up album to his 2012 self-titled, debut effort and also finishing up the What So Not Gemini EP. They recently shared the title single from the EP, "Gemini," which features fellow Future Classic artist George Maple on vocals.

He recently left the duo with Emoh Instead that they founded several years ago, citing "artistic differences," though they have one last EP together as a final farewell to fans.

He also announced some new tour dates on his website, which are primarily European and North American festival dates at events like Free Press Summer Festival, Electric Forest, Melt! Festival, Peacock Society Festival and others.
