The race to the White House in 2016 is heating up and candidates on both sides of the aisle are looking for any way to get an edge. New candidates are popping up weekly on the Republican ticket and Marco Rubio has been the latest to announce his candidacy for president. During his time in Congress, the junior senator from Florida has been a vocal critic of the president and is also known as a big fan of hip-hop. He was approached by TMZ in Washington D.C. and asked about his both his wife and his musical preferences. Rubio, who has been embroiled in a controversy surrounding using an unlicensed song on the road, (not the first Republican candidate to do so) admitted to liking Nicki Minaj and electronic music, specifically David Guetta, Axwell /\ Ingrosso and Swedish House Mafia.

Having announced his candidacy on Monday, Rubio already got in trouble for his choice of music used at a campaign rally on Monday. He walked off stage to Axwell /\ Ingrosso's single "Something New," however the Swedish Djs were not too enthused with the selection.

"Axwell ^ Ingrosso didn't give their permission for this song to be used and don't want to be affiliated with a particular party during the upcoming presidential race," said the duo in a statement via Business Insider.

Rubio has also developed a reputation as one of the biggest hip-hop fans in the Senate since he was elected. Among his favorite rappers include Tupac and the aforementioned Nicki Minaj.

Other Republican candidates have also had their musical tastes scrutinized over the beginning salvos of the grueling yearlong primary campaign. Rand Paul had a campaign video using John Rich's song "Shuttin' Down Detroit," which apparently was uncleared and got automatically pulled down from YouTube.

Ted Cruz explained his musical tastes recently saying that he was a big fan of country because rock didn't react as well to country after 9/11.
