Let the shenanigans commence! After reaching an Indiegogo objective of $4.4 million, the humorous Broken Lizard gang will organize a sequel to the 2001 cult indie comedy, Super Troopers.

Initially, the comedy ensemble consisting of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Erik Stolhanske, Paul Soter and Steve Leme aimed for a $2 million film-funding goal, which was rapidly surpassed in just 24 hours. Closing with $4.4 million in the bag, the awaited sequel is the second-largest film funded by its fans, next to Veronica Mars, which raked in $5.7 million on Kickstarter, notes Variety. Prior to the campaign, the comedic brains behind Super Toopers, Beerfest and Club Dread, closed a deal with 20th Century Fox.

The 14-year-old film follows five Vermont state troopers who are particularly inept at their jobs, yet find themselves in the middle of solving a murder and busting a drug smuggling ring--all in the midst of chugging maple syrup and clashing with Spurburry's local police. Seemingly better at pulling off pranks than cracking down the law, the five troopers are forced to buckle down before they lose their jobs.

Broken Lizard offered various extras and amenities to backers who helped fund the project, including tickets to the movie screening, signed DVDs and scripts. For just $20, Hefferman's character, Rod Farva, will give personal YouTube video shout outs by calling people "chickenf-ckers," notes Rolling Stone. "The more money we raise, the more great, fun sh-t you'll get to see," the troupe pledged.

A $20,000 incentive called "The Best Men" promises that "All five members of Broken Lizard will attend your wedding and act as your groomsmen (or bridesmaids). We'll even bring you a gift."

Donations continue to come in spurts, but the film fell short of $4.5 million, which would've allowed them to acquire live bears. Raising $5 million dollars would've secured Brian Cox's Captain O'Hagan for the sequel but for now, his involvement remains unknown.

Production for Super Troopers 2 will start in May, with filming to follow in the Northeast this summer.
