Instagram has caught on to how popular musicians are in the social media world and has responded with @Music, an account sponsored by the service that will shine light on rising acts and give exclusive peeks at established performers such as Questlove of The Roots.

The music community is—and always has been—an important part of Instagram. For the past four years, we have become the home for artists big and small—a place where people across the musical spectrum come to share stories, reveal their creativity and connect directly with fans," reads a statement from the company. "In the Instagram tradition, we will also welcome community participation with a new, music-themed monthly hashtag project. Music is a huge part of all of our lives here at Instagram. It's a passion of ours, and we know it's a passion of yours. So follow along at @music—we think you'll discover something new."

One of the more promising aspects of the new account, in our humble opinion, is Instagram's statement that @Music will also give some attention to music photographers, album illustrators, luthiers and other instrument makers...interesting segments of the industry that rarely get the credit they deserve.

The statement released by the company suggests that one of the first rising bands highlighted will be Tricot, a trio of Japanese rockers. That's a promising start: So much great music lies outside of the Western market, just waiting for a shout-out from music media. Until The Ribbon Breaks is listed alongside Questlove as a forthcoming guest star.

Instagram tells Buzzfeed that more than 25 percent of the most popular accounts on the service belong to those in the music industry, a pretty good analytics indicator of where user interest lie. Beyoncé is the most popular member of Instagram, with more than 31 million followers.

Instagram will provide daily posts on the @Music account from Tuesday through Sunday.
