Apparently, Lee Daniels and the folks over at FOX have been discussing the possibility of working on an Empire spinoff following season 2 of the series.

According to Vulture, Fox TV Group co-chief Dana Walden has shown some interest in moving forward with a follow-up to the hit show, as long as the characters have a story that will captivate viewers.

“If there’s a character that feels original enough, has enough momentum and enough of a storytelling engine, we will definitely look to spin 'Empire' off for next season,” she said.

Daniels, a co-creator of Empire, is currently working with the FOX network to develop the right concept for a spinoff.

“We just want to make sure the right idea presents itself to the creators, and that it’s not something that feels forced or fabricated,” Walden said. “And we’re not going to rush anything. We want the writers to stay focused on making a great season of 'Empire' this year.”

Back in August, it was also reported that Daniels has already started working on his next project for FOX, titled Star. The hour-long soap will reportedly trace the rise of a three-member, Atlanta-based female singing group trying to become superstars.

As for this current season of Empire, viewers are in for a star-studded run, full of drama. Vivica A. Fox will make an appearance as the oldest sister of Cookie, played by Taraji P. Henson. Other guest stars include Lenny Kravitz and Alicia Keys. Daniels previously confirmed that he has written roles for dream guest-star, Oprah Winfrey, and Oscar-winner, Common. This season of Empire will expand to 18 episodes from season one's modest 12, structured in two halves with a major cliffhanger between.
