Everything has its own day nowadays, but some things, such as karaoke, get a whole freakin' week. The third week of April is apparently National Karaoke Week. The event, supposedly not invented by Smule, was celebrated by Smule, which used data from its Sing! Karaoke app to determine the most popular karaoke tracks in existence. The app's more than 150 million users generated this Top 10:

01) "Let It Go" by Idina Menzel

02) "Cups" by Anna Kendrick

03) "Stay" by Rihanna (feat. Mikky Ekko)

04) "When I Was Your Man" by Bruno Mars

05) "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic

06) "Demons" by Imagine Dragons

07) "Let Her Go" by Passenger

08) "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus

09) "Happy" by Pharrell Williams

10) "Grenade" by Bruno Mars

We took three things from this list: A) If you want to be on top of the list, it helps to be an actress before a vocalist (Menzel's debatable whether she's a vocalist or actress first) B) It helps to be Bruno Mars and C) There's obviously something off about this list.

Further research indicates that Smule's karaoke app only offers 700 songs. That may sound like a ton, but it ain't. Plus, even if it contains karaoke classics such as "Don't Stop Believing" or anything else by Journey for that matter, the average user probably uses this free app to listen to hit tracks such as "Let It Go" rather than use them for honest karaoke work. If you want an honest look at what real hardcore karaoke vocalists are singing, you gotta go to Tokyo, the capitol.

Music Times writer Ryan Book doesn't always sing karaoke, but when he does, he chooses "Spirit of The Radio" by Rush.

UPDATE: "150 million users" apparently refers to everyone who uses a Smule app of any sort. The total number who use Sing! Karaoke app is 23.9 million.
