As we've previously reported, Lil Wayne and his former mentor and current boss Birdman are engaged in a very public, and potentially dangerous feud. This stems from a $51 million lawsuit Wayne filed against Birdman for allegedly withholding funds and delaying his Tha Carter V release. However, according to Vince Staples, trouble has been brewing with the Young Money/Cash Money executives for a long time, and has finally come to fruition. Staples views the falling out as a positive step, and a necessary one, that will inspire the two artists to focus on more important things like their artistic and commercial success. Staples also mentioned that he hopes for an album from Birdman in the future.

In an interview with MTV, Vince Staples said of Lil Wayne and Birdman's beef, "I think that was great. 'Cause they've had a troubled past, a very interesting history. That has less to do with the situation and more to do with Twitter control. Lil Wayne is too old to use Twitter. And when you're too old to use Twitter, you use it poorly. And that's kinda what happened there. And, you know, they kissed on Rap City. And all love stories come to a sad end. It's like Titanic...I think we need a Birdman album more than we need a Lil Wayne album right now."

Although his resume is pretty impressive (one needs to look at only a few year-end lists to see how revered his Summertime '06 has become), it turns out that Staples, along with Eminem, Meek Mill, and 74 other composers, is in the running for the Best Original Song award at the 88th Academy Awards. Staples was nominated for the track "Waiting For My Moment" from the recently released film Creed.
