On Tuesday (Dec. 15), Thrice's frontman Dustin Kensrue laid down a cover of Brand New's "Jesus Christ" while performing a solo acoustic show at Santa Ana, California, venue The Observatory.

It's not particularly surprising that Kensrue would choose this specific song to perform, considering its title and his openness about his Christian faith. The singer/songwriter had joined the congregation of Mars Hill Church as a worship pastor during his hiatus with Thrice, even releasing some new, specifically Christian-themed music with the church band,

According to Alternative Press, Kensrue recently announced that he would be releasing a live cover album, recorded during these shows in California, and given his flawless execution of the track, it's likely that this exact performance will appear on the album.

"Jesus Christ" appears on Brand New's 2006 third studio album The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, which has become one of their most celebrated albums. The band's frontman, Jesse Lacey, recentlybroke down in tears on stage, hinting that the band won't last much longer.

Kensrue's main band, Thrice, recently revealed via social media that they would be releasing a new album in 2016. They had returned from an extended hiatus around this time last year, performing at a number of festivals, including Riot Fest, since then.

Kensure released his latest solo album Carry The Fire earlier this year.

Thrice's latest full-length album, Major/Minor, was released in 2011 via Vagrant Records (who hopefully paid them their royalties), but that wasn't their only release since then. In 2012 they released a live album titled Anthology.
