The Smashing Pumpkins are supposedly releasing two albums during 2015 and the group hasn't found a full-time replacement for the talented Jimmy Chamberlin yet. Billy Corgan isn't looking for applicants, but he revealed the session musician who will man the skins for the first record: Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee.

This might sound out of left field for those who've always imagined the Smashing Pumpkins as poster boys for alternative rock, as Crüe (and especially Lee) represent one of the most party-boy heavy metal bands in history. Corgan doesn't shy away from his love of the genre however, even if he doesn't include similar raunch in his own music.

"Here's a shot from the mission out west," Corgan typed. "Just finished round 1 of tracking drums with Tommy Lee for the new the Smashing Pumpkins album. Shockla-locka-boom."

Shockla-locka-boom, indeed.

Corgan reported that Lee will be providing drums for nine tracks on Monuments To An Elegy, the first planned album in the Pumpkins' 2015 repertoire. However, he also listed a potential tracklist for the album, which only included nine tracks. So it's possible Lee will be the only drummer on the album.

What about touring then? Granted, a 2015 release means the tour will probably won't begin until then either, so it's a bit early to speculate about such things. However, Mötley Crüe is reportedly on its final tour as we speak, so Lee will have 2015 wide open. Could he settle for the smaller stages of the Pumpkins (relative to Crüe's arenas)? If so, that'd be a heck of a draw.
