The 2016 Grammys got under way with a performance from its star Taylor Swift performing her new single "Out Of The Woods." Kendrick Lamar then predictably took home Best Rap Album followed by a duet performance from Sam Hunt and Carrie Underwood. After a pun-filled introduction from Ariana Grande, commenting that "he earned it, he deserved" his 7 different nominations - 2 of which he already won the pre-telecast - The Weeknd jumped into a medley of "Can't Feel My Face" and "In The Night."

The Weeknd starts out in a box of tall, thin LEDs and does his best Michael Jackson impression performing "Can't Feel My Face. He stands alone surrounded by the big lights you expect from such an upbeat song, but there is no fire like he has had at some past award shows.

He steps out of the box for a soft acoustic performance of "In The Night" with a cellist and a pianist. The lights come down to just a few white spotlights that match his classy dark navy and white tuxedo. He shows off his falsettos, going for all of the notes. The pianist adds an extra element, taking care of the melody in a creative way underneath The Weeknd's crooning.

Stay tuned for plenty more from the Grammys with 16 more performances to come.

The Weeknd joins an all-star cast of other performers that include Adele, Justin Bieber with Skrillex and Diplo, The Eagles, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Miguel, Little Big Town, Kendrick Lamar, James Bay & Tori Kelly, Alabama Shakes and many more.
