For Directioners, One Direction fanfiction is just as vital to life as eating, breathing and the sweet, sweet music of a certain British boy band. So, after massive success in the online realm, it should come as no surprise that a popular 1D fanfic starring Harry Styles will soon be published officially.
After months of speculation today (June 3), Hypable reported that the popular Styles-starring fanfiction After will soon be published officially in an eBook and hardback form. According to the fandom website, Simon & Schuster purchased the series, its audiobook rights and "world rights" for a six-figure sum from 25-year-old Texan author Anna Todd, who writes under the name "imaginator1D."
The synopsis is just as vague and dirty as one could imagine. According to the After Table of Contents on Wattpad.com, the story follows thusly: "Tessa Young is an 18 year old college student with a simple life, excellent grades, and a sweet boyfriend. She always has things planned out ahead of time, until she meets a rude boy named Harry, with too many tattoos and piercings who shatters her plans."
Harry Styles is, of course, the Harry in question. Other members of One Direction make appearances in the story as well.
According to Todd, Tessa's name will remain unchanged in the newly published version but Styles will be altered to another H-name.
The original story After features 99 chapters and a warning of the story's "detailed sexual scenes and tons of explicit language" as well as the "loads and loads of typos." The first of the three books alone has over 194 million reads on Wattpad and 451,000 comments.
Of course, After won't be the first fanfic adapted into a proper story and eBook. The highly popular smutty novel series Fifty Shades Of Grey began as a Twilight fanfiction titled Master of his Universe on fanfiction.net. That story originally featured Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in the roles now known as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
