Prophets of Rage, the new band from members of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill , plan to shake things up at the Republican National Convention this July. Guitarist Tom Morello recently hinted at the band's upcoming itinerary to Bloomberg Politics.

Speaking to the news agency's political arm this past week in an illuminating video report (see below), Morello was reticent but ready to disclose the band's intention to "Bring the Noise" at the impending RNC when it takes place this summer in Cleveland:

"Well there's a thing called the Republican National Convention in July, and that will be a perfect place for a band like Prophets of Rage to cause a raucous, and we will be there on the streets, in the field," Morello said. "We have a venue and there may be venues that will be spontaneous venues, it's hard to say. This is the kind of thing you don't broadcast to the local authorities prior to arrival."

As we previously reported, Prophets of Rage was formed by Morello with fellow Rage Against the Machine instrumentalists Brad Wilk (drums) and Tim Commerford (bass). Joining the Rage rhythm trio on vocals are Cypress Hill's B-Real and Public Enemy's Chuck D.

The band -- essentially the classical Rage lineup sans founding vocalist Zack de la Rocha with the addition of the two legendary old-school rappers -- reportedly feel that this season's uncanny election cycle calls for a powerful political band to "Fight the Power."

In an up-to-the-minute synopsis of the Prophets' inception and current stratagem, Rolling Stone quotes Morello as denying the band's "supergroup" status. The six-string slinger simply perceives the group's present obligation as a bureaucratic musical adversary to the modern malaise represented in the two-party status quo:

"We're not a supergroup," says Tom Morello. "We're an elite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election year bullsh*t, and confront it head-on with Marshall stacks blazing."
