It has been 21 years since Selena Quintanilla died, but she is about to receive a posthumous honor as she will finally have her own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced on Tuesday that the late singer will be a part of the Walk of Fame Class of 2017 along with other famous stars.

"The Committee looked carefully at each nominee and we feel that we have selected a great group of talent that will appeal to the tastes of many fans around the world," Television producer and Walk of Famer Vin Di Bona said in a statement. "We look forward to their big day as the Walk of Fame Class of 2017 become part of Hollywood history on this famous Walk."

Sadly, Selena is now gone and can't cherish her new recognition, but her family celebrated in their own little way by announcing the news to the whole world. "The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce-Hollywood Walk of Fame announced today that Selena will be getting her very own star next year!" they shared on the singer's Facebook page accompanied by a Spanish translation.

It was a mix of emotions for Selena's fans as some uttered "what took them so long to recognize our greatest Selena" while others remarked, "it's about time!" Another one shared her sentiments and explained that the "Dreaming of You" hitmaker should have received the Walk of Fame star before her death.

But, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, Selena's sister and drummer, revealed to Corpus Christi Caller Times that they are excited about the fashion designer's upcoming Walk of Fame star. "We're honored that people are still remembering her 21 years [after her death]."

To recall, Selena died on March 31, 1995, after the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar, shot her inside a motel. At the time, she was at the peak of her fame, topping the Tejano charts and about to start an English-language crossover.

She won a Grammy award for "Best Mexican-American Album" in 1993 and her life story was made into a movie in 1997. Her character in the biopic, Selena, was played by Jennifer Lopez and directed by Gregory Nava, as per The Independent.
