Following the controversy and rampant accusations of just who “Becky” could be, the songwriter behind it has explained the iconic lyric from Beyonce's Lemonade album.

Songwriter Diana Gordon, who goes under the EDM stage name of Wynter Gordon, has been in the business since 2004. Beginning in 2005, Gordon began to work penning hits for the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Flo Rida.

She was the mastermind behind Flo Rida’s 2009 hit “Sugar” and Lopez’s song “What Is Love,” released in 2011.

The song “Sorry” from Lemonade featured the infamous line (“He only want me when I’m not there / He better call Becky with the good hair”), which sent the Internet ablaze with rumors.

“I was like, ‘[In] what day [and] age from that lyric do you get all of this information?’ Is it really telling you all that much, accusing people?” Gordan said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Gordon further expressed that she didn’t believe that Beyonce had expected the level of controversy that resulted from the lyric, saying, “No. I don’t think she expected it. I saw her at her Formation tour. She had a pajama party; we laughed, we danced, we hugged it out. But I didn’t say much about it at the time because I wanted to give her space.”

According to Gordon, she was actually the one who wrote the lyric, saying, “The idea started in my mind but it’s not mine any more. It was very funny and amusing to me to watch it spread over the world. If it’s not going to be me saying it, and the one person in the world who can say it is Beyonce, I was f*cking happy.”

In other Beyonce news, the singer was recently nominated for four Emmys following the release of the Lemonade HBO Special. The visuals were released along with the album, Lemonade, and can be viewed as a visual representation of the album, all directed by Beyonce.

For her work on Lemonade, Beyonce was nominated for Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special along with her co-director, Kahlil Joseph. Lemonade also received nominations for Outstanding Production Design For A Variety, Nonfiction, Event Or Award Special, Outstanding Picture Editing For Variety Programming, and Outstanding Variety Special.
