The Walking Dead fans are in turmoil over worry about the fate of the residents of Alexandria, following the death of Carl Grimes and the rumored exit of Rick Grimes. Questions over who leads the survivors bring about an unlikely answer, Negan.
The mid-season 8 finale of The Walking Dead are all fans can talk about. In a surprise plot twist that left viewers stunned and furious, Carl Grimes revealed a fatal zombie bite that led to his demise. His death was uncalled for since, in the comic books, Carl lived long after his father Rick died. He then took over as the leader.
However, the opposite happened in the AMC series. Rick is still alive, but probably not for long. Actor Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, has since hinted at his character's demise in previous interviews. He teased that Rick deserves a worthy send off.
"I've said to you before and I really feel that the fans — and also for my own satisfaction — that there deserves to be an end point. There needs to be an end game and that is something that is definitely being talked about," Lincoln said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.
Likewise, it is no secret that The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman wants to kill Rick. He told fans at the San Diego Comic Convention that Rick does not survive to the end. This impending possibility left fans worried about the fate of the survivors after Rick dies. Who will lead his people long after he is gone? The obvious answer is Negan.
Negan has what it takes to lead people, although his style of leadership is of the nefarious kind. The survivors might follow him out of fear rather than respect. Negan has a strong albeit psychotic personality. The survivors need a forceful person and Negan fits the description well.
Although Rick's people fear him, this can change in due time as the story progresses. It is something that can be tweaked as The Walking Dead moves along with more seasons. Negan can have a dramatic change of heart, which ultimately allows room for character growth.
It is also worthy to mention that actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan, has promised his commitment to the series. He is in it for the long haul. Regardless, it is too early to predict what happens in The Walking Dead. Whether Rick dies and Negan takes over as the leader is unknown.
