One of the two mysteries surrounding Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) death has been solved finally. This week's episode of This Is Us was a gut-wrenching one, especially for fans of the character.

In "Three Sentences," a flashback to several years ago showed Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) at home without their three children. Kate (Hannah Zeile) went to her friend's house while Randall (Niles Fitch) went out on a date, and Kevin (Logan Shroyer) went to his girlfriend's house after a fight with his parents.

Mystery Of Jack's Death

After watching television, Jack decided to pack away the food on the table. He also turned off the Crock-Pot and left a note for Kevin telling him that he owed them an apology for what happened earlier that day. While Jack and Rebecca were in bed, the Crock-Pot that they got from the previous owner of their current house caught fire.

The Pearson family's kitchen went ablaze, and Jack was somehow left behind in their home, and that's where he died. Rebecca managed to escape from their house before the fire consumed the entire property. However, there is still another mystery that needs to be solved.

Did Jack Save Kate's Dog?

Jack and Rebecca were both in their bedroom when the fire broke out. If the latter was able to escape, Jack should have escaped as well. In the previous episodes, Kate (Chrissy Metz) refused to talk about her dad's death. She is also very sensitive when it comes to her dog.

There are speculations suggesting that Jack died because he tried to save Kate's dog during the fire. This storyline makes sense because Kate has always felt guilty about her dad's demise. Fans still need to wait until next week to find out the truth about Jack, Kate, and her dog.

Milo Ventimiglia Expresses Gratitude To Fans

Last year, Ventimiglia opened up about his character and said that he was surprised by the fans' obsession with Jack's death. He said that even during press interviews, his costars get asked about his character's mysterious death.

"You know, if anything, it means that the character has impacted people, and I think that's always the biggest compliment actors are able to do. It's all working, it's just all working that people care so deeply about this man. People are connected to this man. I'm very, very grateful," said the actor.

This Is Us Season 1 airs on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBC.
