Janey Jackson opens up about depression and how her son, Eissa Al Mana, is changing her life in a heartfelt letter she wrote for Essence.

Janet Jackson's Secret To Happiness

The pop diva poses on the cover of the upcoming "The Happiness Issue" of the magazine.

"I struggle with depression. The struggle was intense. Low self-esteem might be rooted in childhood feelings of inferiority. It could relate to failing to meet impossibly high standards. And of course there are always the societal issues of racism and sexism," she wrote for the July/August issue of the magazine via People. "Put it all together and depression is a tenacious and scary condition. Thankfully, I found my way through it."

Right now, the 52-year-old does not feel as sad anymore. She attributes her newfound happiness and her brighter perspective of life through the love of her 1-year-old son.

"The height of happiness is holding my baby son in my arms and hearing him coo, or when I look into his smiling eyes and watch him respond to my tenderness," she continued. "When I kiss him. When I sing him softly to sleep. During those sacred times, happiness is everywhere."

Eissa came into Jackson's life in January 2017. He is her first child with her ex-husband, Wissam Al Mana, whom she married in 2012. The celebrity couple split last year, citing irreconcilable differences.

The two is still battling against each other in court to gain full custody of their child.

Janet Jackson Phones Welfare To Check On Her Son

While Jackson and Al Mana have been silent about their divorce and custody battle, the conflict spilled into public view after the "Nasty" singer had phoned the police on her husband. USA Today reports that Jackson was worried that Al Mana was using drugs around the child in a hotel in Malibu.

Apparently, a nanny who was caring for the child got into a heated argument with Al Mana. She reported to Jackson that the billionaire has grown aggressive.

Worried about the safety of her son, Jackson phoned 9-1-1 and asked the authorities to check on her husband. The law enforcement found no evidence of drug use.

Janet Jackson Working On New Album

When not doting on her adorable baby boy, Jackson is working on her new album. Last month, she confirmed to Billboard that she is already in the process of writing new music.

The still-untitled album is her follow-up to 2015's Unbreakable. No release date has been set as of this writing, but a source revealed that she is currently working with Bruno Mars.
