The Canadian country singer Orville Peck has announced in a Twitter post, Monday, May 25, that his new song is set for release on Friday.

"Howdy people! New song coming out on Friday," Peck wrote on the social media platform. He also announced that there are "a couple other things sprinkled in throughout the week."

His upcoming single follows his recent "Summertime," which was released a month ago. The Drew Krisch and Taylor Fauntleroy directed music video saw the mysterious alternative rock and country star in an all-black outfit, face still hidden, in sceneries filled with plants and flowers.

"Askin', "Where the time's gone?/ Dreamin' with the lights on," Peck's timely "Summertime" began.

Orville Peck, The Masked Country Star

Aside from his hits "Summertime" and "Queen of Rodeo," Orville Peck is perhaps best known for his fringed Lone Ranger mask topped by a cowboy hat, hiding most of his face. The name "Orville Peck" is just a pseudonym used by the masked artist. However, in an interview with Noisey, Vice's music arm, Peck disclosed that he used to play as a part of punk bands and that he has worked as both an actor and a dancer throughout his career. Noisey's Gary Suarez presumes his age as between 20 and 40 years old.

Another interview, this time with local Canadian publication Ottawa Citizen, explains, "some masks are actually way more exposing than anything else," adding that it allows him to be open with what he sings and what he says. The publication also inferred that Orville Peck might be the alter ego of musician Daniel Pitout, drummer for the Canadian punk trio Nü Sensae. They made the connection because of similar tattoos, especially those on the drummer's right arm.

Other outfits also supported the connection, seeing as how both Nü Sensae and Pitout promoted the page of Orville Peck before he rose to widespread fame. He also identifies himself as gay, further sharing in an interview with Billboard that "it's not a stretch to place gay themes on the shoulders of a cowboy," noting how country legend Willie Nelson did it best.

Debuting with "Pony" and Becoming a Country Favorite

On March 22, 2019, Orville Peck released his self-produced debut album, "Pony." His first release contained the above hits plus the single "Hope to Die," which was released with a music video helmed by Blake Mawson as the director. It first showed Peck as the quintessential cowboy, showed him halfway performing an intricate ballet-like sequence, before entering into the dramatic third act of his music video.

The New Yorker described Peck's voice as having the "sexy, menacing melodrama of Roy Orbison." As a cowboy, who is strongly reminiscent of Old West icons in both his visuals and his musical storytelling, Peck was hailed by Louder for his storytelling style, which is likened to that of Johnny Cash mixed with velvet-smooth vocals.

Also, when country singer-songwriter Kenny Rogers passed away last March due to natural causes, Peck paid his respects with a cover of "Islands In The Stream," Rogers' 1983 hit with Dolly Parton. In the live stream on his YouTube channel, he noted that the duet was among his all-time favorites.
