Currently on the road for his "Sob Rock Tour," John Mayer finds himself in limbo again because one of his touring partners tested positive for COVID-19.

The 44-year old singer took to Twitter to announce the news.

His drummer, Steve Ferrone, tested positive for COVID-19 while on the "Sob Rock Tour." The announcement came on the heels of the singer's show at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Going on as scheduled, John Mayer posted a black and white photo of himself facing an empty arena. He noted, however, that there would be "a very special" presentation.

Who stepped in?

Mayer ended the tweet wishing their drummer in isolation and looking forward to seeing his fans on the show.

As soon as the show began, Mayer also announced that one of his background vocalists, Carlos Ricketts, also tested positive for the virus.

Albeit performing the majority of his set in acoustic, the "very special" presentation Mayer was talking about is his guest drummer for the night.

Mayer revealed that The Roots frontman and drummer Questlove would be taking Ferrone's helm on the drums for the night.

Future of the 'Sob Rock Tour'

The "Your Body Is A Wonderland" hitmaker took to Instagram to thank Questlove, who "stepped in on an hour's notice to help end the show on such a powerful and definitive note."

He also wished his drummer Ferrone and background vocalist Ricketts a speedy recovery from the virus.

"Most importantly, I thank everyone in attendance whose enthusiasm and energy in the face of some disappointing news lifted us all to something far greater than I could have ever expected. It's the honor of my life to share these nights of music with you," Mayer wrote.

He also revealed that the "next couple of tour stops" will be like the one that they have performed in New York City, minus Questlove, unfortunately.

John ended the post by promising his fans that he will "devote every moment to making sure we bring you the best show" that they can.

Whether the tour will look for a possible replacement for the two has yet to be announced, but per John's post, the team is hopeful that the two can return to the stage for the rest of the tour.
