Mark Lanegan's death made royal fans extremely worried about Queen Elizabeth II's health status.

Queen Elizabeth II, unfortunately, contracted COVID-19 after years of doing her best to avoid the dreaded virus. Days later, reports about Lanegan's death came into the limelight.

On Tuesday, Hollywood Unlocked released "breaking news" about Queen Elizabeth II's alleged death. It revealed that the monarch passed away the morning of February 22.

"Sources close to the Royal Palace notified us exclusively that #QueenElizabeth has passed away. She was scheduled to attend the wedding of British Vogue editor Edward Enninful but was found dead. Story developing," the caption of the post said.

The post has since been blurred and tagged as false information after independent fact-checkers reviewed the post.

Meanwhile, it also reached the Buzzfeed page, where users seemingly found out what caused the report to emerge.

Is Mark Lanegan's Death Related to False News About Queen Elizabeth II?

As reported by NME, a Buzzfeed source said that the report about Queen Elizabeth II's death probably came out due to a misunderstanding related to Mark Lanegan's passing.

For what it's worth, Lanegan previously served as Queens Of The Stone Age's singer. The insider said Hollywood Unlocked probably mistook the band's name as Her Majesty.

Meanwhile, the news site's founder, Jason Lee, has since defended their post to Buzzfeed News, saying he supports the story.

"I would never post something like this if the person that told me, I did not trust. People are asking why we posted without allowing the royal family or the Palace to release a statement. Why? Because we break stories. And I've broken many stories that have been factual. We have never been wrong," he explained.

The CEO added that a guest who is close to the Queen received the phone call directly. He said that the person, who reportedly attended British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful's wedding, "reacted emotionally to a few people, and those few people were informed that that's what happened."

Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly scheduled to attend the wedding on Tuesday. However, she was not included in the published guests list and rarely attends non-royal weddings. In addition, Her Majesty is currently isolating herself after contracting COVID-19.

In the end, Lee defended the site and said that they do not create clickbait and gossip.
