After fans tried to decode cryptic hints Arcade Fire had sent out earlier this month, the band finally announced the arrival of their sixth studio album and their brand new single.

Earlier this March, some fans in the United States and the United Kingdom received an unusual postcard from the Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire.

Arcade Fire Sent Cryptic Messages to Fans Hinting New Music

Storming to Reddit, fans claim to have received a cryptic postcard containing a musical notation, an eye logo, and a "WE missed you" scribble that fans thought to be written by frontman Win Butler and Regine Chassagne.

As weird as it may sound, another fan snapped the same eye logo on a bridge in London and on a street wall in Chicago.

In a real Reddit fashion, Redditors, who were evidently fans of the indie rock band, ran an extra mile and tried to play the musical notation they had received using a guitar.

Sharing a Soundcloud recording, fans assume that the short snippet is a part of something bigger, even suggesting that the different postcard that everyone had received is the chords for a possible new Arcade Fire song.

Well, fans in Reddit seemed to have hit the bullseye with their predictions as Arcade Fire finally announced the release date for their upcoming album.

Arcade Fire Releases New Single And New Album Release Date

The widely successful Canadian indie band Arcade Fire is a force on its own as all five albums they have released received Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Music Album.

Their upcoming album, "WE," which fans have predicted the album name, has to live up to its predecessors to get a Grammy nod.

Recorded in New Orleans, El Paso, and Mount Desert Island, "WE" is up for release on May 6, 2022, with pre-orders already available.

Frontman Win Butler said (via Independent) that it is "the longest we've ever spent writing, uninterrupted, probably ever," for an album.

Comprising of seven songs divided into two sides, Arcade Fire channeled "fear and loneliness of isolation" on the first side of its vinyl track version while the back projects "the joy and power of reconnection."

Almost a day before the album was announced, the band also released its two lead singles, "The Lightning I" and "The Lightning II."
