Taylor Hawkins almost spent his last years without Foo Fighters.

Since 1997, Hawkins had been sharing his talent with Foo Fighters after officially replacing William Goldsmith who quit the band due to Dave Grohl's perfectionism. The late drummer himself experienced Grohl's attitude that it almost made him leave his post.

Before his tragic death, the 50-year-old sat for his last interview with Rolling Stone where he recalled how he struggled to deliver a satisfactory performance while working on their 2002 album, "One by One." Grohl reportedly left all the drumming to him in the album.

According to Hawkins, it was a make-or-break moment since the album would have a pivotal role in their career.

"We hadn't finished One by One, because it wasn't going so good. ... And I was still coming out of my fog from thinking that this should be a complete democracy. We were doing Coachella and we had a big argument because I was being a f*****g smart-ass and know-it-all, thinking I know what was right," he said.

Hawkins recalled how Grohl told him that he could not decide on his band. So the Nirvana's drummer told him to do the job or beat it instead.

The late drummer enjoyed his reveng when Foo Fighters killed their performance at Coachella Festival. The band played after Queens of the Stone Age where Grohl was drumming in.

How Foo Fighters Completed "One by One"?

During the same interview, Hawkins detailed how they were able to finally get themselves together and complete "One by One."

"After the show, I remember going for a walk with him and him going, 'We're going to go back to Virginia. We'll finish this record and then we're going to go on tour and we're going to be a band.' ... After we did that album and did our first headlining slot at the Reading Festival, that's when the fun began," he said, as quoted by Ultimate Classic Rock and Culture.

Aside from facing difficulties in their 2002 album, Hawkins revealed the difficult experience they went through while recording their "There is Nothing Left to Lose" after Goldsmith's departure.

Although he was scared, Grohl reportedly held his hand and eventually did half the drums on the album.

Taylor Hawkins left the world in shock this week after his tragic and untimely death. The Colombia's Prosecutor's Office confirmed in a statement on Saturday that the toxicological tests on his urine showed 10 psychoactive substances and medicines.
