ABBA may not really be retiring at all in people's hearts after a fan event had been announced to fans.

Ahead of ABBA's 50th anniversary, the group will be seen together again through the digitally remastered "ABBA: The Movie." Trafalgar Releasing and Warner Bros., according to Deadline, confirmed the schedule of the event for two nights in May to mark the band's special day.

Lasse Hallstrom reportedly shot the film during ABBA's 1977 Australian tour and released the clip that year. For 2022, "ABBA: The Movie - Fan Event" will take fans to the 1970s again before the pop band bid goodbye to them.

Distributor Trafalgar penned in a statement, "The film stars the members of ABBA, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Agnetha Faltskog, and was captured by director Lasse Hallstrom (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, Dear John) during the group's mega-successful 1977 Australian tour."

It added that the music film is set to show the never-before-seen events featuring ABBA during the height of their career. The distributor also hinted that the film would also show backstage footage and full-length performances of some of their greatest hits, including "Name of the Game," "Dancing Queen," and "Tiger."

Trafalgar's SVP of Programming and Content Acquisitions, Kymberli Frueh said that the fan event would be fun for fans as they would experience ABBA on the big screen again since the 1977 release.

Did ABBA Already Retire?

The announcement came months after the pop icon group officially announced their retirement after their recent return.
In a Zoom interview with The Guardian
last year, members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus said ABBA was completely done in the 1980s. After joining a company and selling it afterward, they reportedly never expected the band to continue again.

However, they found their way again but also warned they would not last.

"This is it," Andersson said. "It's got to be, you know. I didn't actually say that 'this is it' in 1982. I never said myself that ABBA was never going to happen again. But I can tell you now: This is it."

ABBA's fans had never heard from them since the 1980s, but the band planned their return multiple times in 2017 and 2018.
